rankings
Orthopaedics, pediatrics
and physiology/biophysics in top 10 among peer departments
CLEVELAND (June 15, 2005) – For the
second consecutive year, the Case Western Reserve University (Case) School of
Medicine’s Department of Nutrition, Department of Molecular Medicine and Center
for RNA Molecular Biology are tops in the country in receiving funding from the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) when compared with peer departments at
other medical schools, according to information for fiscal year 2004 released
this week by the NIH.
The
combined standing of the Center for RNA Molecular Biology and the Department of
Molecular Medicine is reflected in the NIH’s “Other
Basic Sciences” category.
Other Case
School of Medicine departments ranking in the top 10 among their peers for NIH
funding include orthopaedics (fourth among
similar departments at the country’s medical schools), pediatrics (eighth), and
physiology / biophysics (ninth).
In the overall rankings of NIH grants to
medical schools in fiscal year 2004, the Case School of Medicine moved up five
positions to No. 13 among the country’s 123 medical schools. Case received $232
million in NIH funding for the year, compared with $203.5 million the previous
