Dr. Saba Valadkhan receives Nsoroma Award from Cleveland Chapter of the National Technical Association

CLEVELAND (March 29, 2006) – Saba Valadkhan, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s Center for RNA Molecular Biology, was one of eight recipients of Nsoroma Awards from the Cleveland Chapter of the National Technical Association on March 25. She was recognized in the science category. The awards recognize “men and women of color in science, technology and education.”

For solving a molecular riddle that had baffled scientists for two decades, Valadkhan in February 2005 received the 2004 Young Scientist Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She correctly identified “a relic from the RNA world” and proved its catalytic potential. For more information on her discovery and that honor, see http://cerebrum.case.edu/newsrelease/valadkhan.htm.
