| DESCRIPTION : This Area of Concentration will give an overview of the general history of medicine. In addition, many of the courses particularly emphasize the l9th and 20th centuries and offer insight into some of the things that have had a strong impact on the practice of medicine and on the response of the public to medical practice.
Students will be able to study and use the exceptionally strong medical historical collections at the Health Sciences Library, including rare books, archives, and the Dittrick Museum of Medical History.
This concentration offers faculty and resources able to support rewarding advanced research in various aspects of medical history. Type B credit will be given for original historical research using the primary sources available here or elsewhere. Students will have a wide range of research topics to choose from, depending on their specific interests and the accessibilityof primary sources.
